The Fragment
Handwritten on a piece of card stock.
Recovered from the cold spot in the circle, where mourning threatened to become inertia.
This fragment does not soothe:
It summons.
Mourn. Yes.
Name the loss.
Bleed if you must. But then ask—
“What will I do with this?”Despair is the signal.
Not the altar.

The Visible Thread
First, there is the wound.
Not the lesson.
Not the transformation.
Not the story you will someday tell
about having survived it.
Only the wound.
Let it speak.
Sit beside what is gone
without asking grief
to make itself useful.
There are losses
that deserve their silence.
There are nights
when continuing
means nothing more heroic
than remaining.
But mourning is a ritual,
not a country.
There comes a moment
when the Sentinel enters
and finds you still kneeling
beside the remains.
She does not pull you away.
She does not tell you
that you have mourned enough.
She waits
until you can hear her.
[…]
The ash does not answer.
It was never meant to.
The answer belongs
to the hands still warm enough
to shape what remains.
So carry the wound
if it must be carried.
Remember what burned.
But when you are ready,
rise with something
other than ashes
in your hands.
Reflections from the Weaver
This is the voice I hear when I’m tempted to perform the collapse.
To script grief so well I forget to move.
But the Sentinel doesn’t allow it.
She witnesses—but she does not mistake inertia for reverence.
She does not say get over it.
She does not impose meaning before grief has finished speaking.
She does not demand that pain justify itself by becoming productive.
She says:
Honor it. Then choose what comes next.
Sometimes she knows that I am not ready to choose yet. Sometimes protecting the flame means closing the forge altogether: sleeping, eating, withdrawing, allowing something to hurt without immediately turning it into material.
But the Sentinel also knows when mourning has stopped witnessing the wound and begun building an altar around it.
That is when she intervenes.
This fragment was written on the border between mourning and motion.
Between honouring what was broken and making brokenness a home.
Between carrying the damaged tool and deciding whether it can be reforged.
Despair can tell me that something mattered.
Grief can tell me that something has been lost.
I will listen to both.
But neither gets to decide what happens next.
This is not cruelty, it is the protection of possibility.
